Blueberries

Washington County is all about blueberries. The landscape is highlighted by the "barrens", particularly in the fall when the leaves turn the fields into vibrant spectrums of red. Celebrate blueberries by attending the Machias Blueberry Festival and be sure to attend the play.

Ocean

Washington County is bounded on the east by the Passamaquoddy Bay and on the South by the Bay of Fundy. Numerous parks provide opportunities to explore coastal regions. Several launching sites exist to allow exploration of the coast by boat. Whale watching excursions are available in Eastport and excursions from Jonesport to Machias Seal Island are available to view the puffins.

Festivals

Celebrate the fourth of July in Eastport where parades, activities and the evening fireworks display over the Passamaquaddy Bay will make memories. International days at Calais celebrate the long relationship of this boarder town with St. Stephens in New Brunswich.

ATV &

Snowmobiling

The vast forest lands of Washington County are crisscrossed by numerous ATV or snowmobiling trails. You can leave your home on Cathance Lake and travel to virtually everywhere in Washington County on the trails.

Fishing &

Hunting

In addition to fishing on Cathance Lake, the numerous lakes, rivers and streams in Washington County offer a full spectrum of fishing opportunities. Grouse, rabbit, deer, bear and moose hunting are available within a short drive from a home in Cathance Shores.

Golf Although golf does not often come to mind with land, lakes and ocean activities, there are a surprising number of opportunities. Courses on Campobello Island, at St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, on the St. Croix river and several others provide "Maine" flavor to golf courses and golfing.
